Mage is a very powerful and useful DD in Classic, who will always find a place in the raid. In this guide to the Mage in WoW Classic, we will look at the main mechanics of playing as a class.

Strengths and weaknesses of the mage

Pros:

  • Powerful solo target and AOE damage
  • Usefulness in raids due to specific abilities
  • Very strong in PvP
  • Easy to farm

Minuses:

  • Magicians are very wadded. Since they wear Cloth, they just make their way through.

Mage builds and talents in WoW Classic

Unlike the current version of WoW, Vanilla has a traditional talent system consisting of three branches. This allows you to fine-tune your character and play style for yourself. In this section, we will look at the most popular and powerful talent builds that bring the highest DPS.

The most powerful build in Classic for a mage. Valued for its efficient mana cost (mana is always in short supply in Vanilla) through abilities such as Arcane Focus, Arcane Meditation, and Focused Ice Power, as well as powerful burst damage through cooldowns, such as Arcane Power. The presence of the mind can also be of great benefit in destroying a priority target or AoE. Casting Fire Pillar, then Presence of Mind to cast the pillar again is a different kind of beauty. Damage meters will skyrocket. To finish off enemies, use Ice Shards to empower your spells.

WC is a low DPS build, but brings a lot of utility to the raid. This build still uses abilities like Frost Shards and mana regen skills, but misses out on the burst damage that the Arcane tree gave us. The talent on which the build is primarily based is named cold. Features of classic WoW allow you to greatly increase the damage of the ENTIRE raid on the target. Also, in this build, we have powerful defensive spells Ice Block and Ice Barrier

When we talk about the Fire spec, we are talking about massive damage. But why, you ask? There are no such talents as Presence of Mind or Arcane Power. This is true, but there is an Ignite that surpasses them.

The correct use of this spell will raise the mages to the first places in the damage ratings. Like any other fire spell, Improved Burn is amplified.

Unfortunately not used much until Ahn’Qiraj’s unlock phase, as most bosses are immune to fire.

Mage Rotation in WoW Classic

Solo target:

When playing in a frost build, you’ll just be casting Frostbolt until the boss dies. Before the boss dies, you can finish him off with Fire Blast or even Cone of Cold. Arcane power should be used when burst damage is needed.

As for the Fire Mage, from the beginning of the fight you are trying to get stacks of Improved Burn. After that, you can cast Pyroblast for Ignite and then hit Fireball.

AOE:

Your AoE abilities will be Flame Pillar and Arcane Blast, while Fire has Blast Wave as well.

Consumable

For a mage, take the following items to your raid:

  • Vial of Great Power
  • Strong Arcane Elixir
  • Elixir of Frost Power
  • Strong Elixir of Firepower
  • good mana potion
  • Weak Invulnerability Potion

enchantment

In the first phase of Vanilla, use Simple Magical Gluttony Stone, Multicolored Dawn Jewel, Enchant Cloak – Resistance, Tier III, Enchant Chest – Health, Tier V, Enchant Bracelets – Intellect, Tier IV, Enchant Boots – Speed, Tier I, Enchant Weapon – Strength spells.

With the opening of the second phase, it is worth using the Magic Stone of Focus for the helmet and leggings. In Phase 4 (Zul’Gurub), replace with Epiphany and Zandalar’s Arcane Shoulder Ring.

In the fifth phase (Ahn’Qiraj) we use:

Enchant Cloak – Stealth for Cloak and

Enchant Gloves – Fire Power / Enchant Gloves – Ice Power depending on build.

In the last phase (Naxxramas) use Scourge Power on the shoulder pads.
